We couldn’t have said it any better than Devita Davison (from her Facebook page, with more great photos of the event):
“Thank you Preservation Detroit and Michigan Historic Preservation Network for planning a terrific National Trust Partners Network 2013 Executive Retreat in Detroit. It was a pleasure hosting them last night at the Eastern Market Corporation “Movable Feast”…walking through the District eating and discussing urban preservation issues, including right-sizing and neighborhood revitalization #GoodTimes!”
Preservation Detroit worked with the Michigan Historic Preservation Network to host preservation leaders from around the country for a three-day conference. We sought out ideas from other communities, and shared innovative Detroit strategies and places. Thank you to our hosts at the Michigan Opera Theatre, and the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue; our reception and tour sponsors at Quicken Loans, the Inn on Ferry Street, and Eastern Market Corporation; and generous sponsors Charter One Foundation, the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office, Michigan Main Street Center, and National Trust Insurance Services.
To the partners who visited, we had a great time and learned so much! Thank you for sharing your experience, and helping us see our city through fresh eyes, the wonderful, the bad, and the ugly alike. We are grateful for all the people who said call us anytime, we’re here for you, and for the new partnerships we hope to forge.
We couldn’t go without mentioning more people and places that made the week memorable…. volunteering at the NSO Bell Building, David Carroll at Quicken, Sue Mosey of Midtown Detroit Inc. and the Inn on Ferry Street, William Colburn at the Freer House, Dan Kinkead of Detroit Future City, Brian Hurttiene of the Villages CDC, Dean Hay of the Greening of Detroit, Juanita Jones of the Detroit Land Bank Authority, Janese Chapman, City Planner with the Detroit Historic Designation Advisory Board, Wendy Lewis Jackson of theKresge Foundation, Dan Carmody of Eastern Market Corporation, the family behind Ronnie’s Meat Market in Eastern Market, Chef Leon Johnson of Market Studio Kitchen, Salt & Cedar, Devita Davison, Joel Peterson and Rebecca Mazzei at Trinosophes, Gregory Holm and this, and the Red Bull House of Art, among many others who showed the spirit of Detroit to our guests.
