Yamasaki in the Cultural Center Tour
Explore Yamasaki in Detroit's Cultural Center
Minoru Yamasaki, Detroit’s best-known midcentury architect, left his mark all over the city.
On select dates, we explore Yamasaki’s legacy in Detroit’s Cultural Center. Learn how Yamasaki came to Wayne State University in the mid-1950s to extend and execute their master plan with new buildings, including four designed by Yamasaki, and the transition to a pedestrian-friendly campus, while helping to establish the College for Creative Studies' new 1950s campus. Highlights include the magnificent McGregor Memorial Conference Center and its Reflecting Pool and Sculpture Garden.
The tour departs from the Josephine Ford Sculpture Garden on the College of Creative Studies campus on John R at Kirby.
Parking: Metered and non-metered street parking is available in the immediate area. Paid parking is also available at the DIA parking lot.
